Buchanan is President and Principal Consultant
for Buchanan & Associates Consulting
(BAC), a national consulting firm based near Dallas, Texas.
BAC provides healthcare organizations with assistance in assessment,
process improvement, governing document and policy development,
project management, education and training, specifically in
the areas of credentialing systems, medical staff services
management functions, medical staff organizational structure,
and accreditation issues. Clients include rural and hospitals”

Ms. Buchanan has been in the healthcare field for over 20
years, and directly involved in medical staff services since
1985. She is a Certified Professional in Medical Staff Management
(CPMSM) and a Certified Provider Credentialing Specialist
(CPCS). Since 1996, Lynn has been a team surveyor for the
National Committee on Quality Assurance (NCQA) CVO Certification
Program. She is also an invited member of the National Credentialing
Forum. Ms. Buchanan has served on the editorial boards of
several healthcare publications, including Health Care Competency
& Credentialing Report and Advisor for Medical & Professional
Staff Services. She contributes regularly to national healthcare
publications, and co-authored a management article which was
named Synergy Magazine’s Article of the Year.
A frequent speaker at a variety of national and state education
conferences and various healthcare facilities, Lynn’s presentation
topics range from basic credentialing to process redesign,
as well as management skills, leadership development and customer
satisfaction techniques. She is also co-founder of Edge-U-Cate,
LLC, a national firm which includes a speakers bureau as well
as timely and affordable educational resources.
Active in professional organizations, Ms. Buchanan served
as the elected President of the National Association Medical
Staff Services (NAMSS). NAMSS has over 4,000 members, and
is the recognized professional organization for the education
and development of individuals responsible for managing credentialing,
privileging, practitioner/provider organizations, and regulatory
compliance. Lynn served on the Board of Directors from 1993
– 2000, and served on the Board and as President of the Texas
Society Medical Staff Services (TSMSS) from 1991-1994. TSMSS
honored her as the Outstanding Medical Staff Services Professional
in 1995.
Prior to founding Buchanan & Associates Consulting in
1997, Lynn was System Director of Medical Staff Services for
a multi-hospital system in Denver. She was administratively
responsible for oversight, centralization, communication and
operational activities for seven medical staff services departments,
involving acute care, behavioral health and rehabilitation
facilities. Responsibilities included the redesign of the
central credentialing department, which provided services
for approximately 3,400 physicians and 1,200 allied health
professionals. She spearheaded reengineering of the AHP credentialing
process, and participated in the design of a commercial software
system specifically created for AHP credentialing. Prior to
Denver, she was with a university hospital in Texas, where
her responsibilities included the development and management
of medical staff affairs, coordination of administrative affairs
special projects, and participation in faculty recruitment.
